Through PROMISE, TEAMIT contributed to paving the way to RSV prevention, treatment and immunisation. PROMISE continued advancing scientific knowledge on Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) to better inform public health strategies and to support the development and monitoring of novel immunisation and therapeutics against this potentially deadly virus in the paediatric and elderly populations. PROMISE built on RESCEU’s results, another Innovative Medicines Initiative project focusing on RSV.


PROMISE legacy

The project brought together translational scientists, clinicians, public health agencies, the pharmaceutical industry, patient groups and clinical societies from 22 world class organisations which have conformed a sustained collaborative ecosystem.

PROMISE has provided access to consolidated data on RSV epidemiology for populations such as babies, young children, pregnant women and older adults, enabled a robust RSV surveillance network in Europe and established post-marketing effectiveness and safety studies guidelines (design, endpoints, etc) to support the monitoring of RSV immunisation and therapeutic products, now in the market. All in all, through collaborative research and increased awareness about this potentially deadly virus, the partnership has contributed to improve treatment and prevention strategies to decrease RSV-related outpatient visits, hospitalisations and mortality. br>
Scientists involved in the project have produced a considerable stream of scientific articles, mostly published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases.
