With nearly ten years of experience leading R&D projects in biomedicine, biotechnology and synthetic biology in academic institutions, Alfonsina has a consolidated expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology, contributing both to project proposal writing, funding acquisition, and project execution and follow-up.
Her scientific career began in 2013 as a junior scientist at the Institute of Food Science (ISA-CNR) in Avellino (IT), focusing on the anti-cancer properties of natural flavonoids. She then joined the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn of Naples (IT) where she pursued a PhD in Life Science in 2018, studying marine thiohistidines, including their biological function, biotechnological exploitation, and biomedical applications. She moved to Barcelona in 2020, joining the Synthetic Biology group at the Centre for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) as a Senior Scientist. She complemented her education with independent training in Project Management and Business Innovation Protection strategies.
Alfonsina authored over ten scientific publications on peer-reviewed journals and presented her work at multiple international conferences and outreach activities.
