TEAMIT participated in EU-PEARL, a strategic partnership between the public and private sectors to shape the future of clinical research, by promoting a new paradigm of collaborative platform trials, where patients play a bigger part in trial clinical trials design and outcomes.

Under the Umbrella of the Innovative Medicines Initiative, the Consortium develeped a generic framework and set of tools to conduct patient-centric collaborative platfrom trials, known as Integrated Research Platforms (IRPs). These are set to make clinical trials more efficent, potentially shortening the timeline to develop and bring to market new medicines for patients.

EU-PEARL legacy

Currently, two platform trials to test potential treatments for Major Depressive Disorder and Neurofibromatosis are ongoing, based on of the master protocols generated by EU-PEARL. The project has significantly contributed to advance innovative clinical trial designs. Specifically, it has layed the ground for complex but robust platform trials methodologies, co-developed by biostatisticians, clinical researchers, industry, regulators and patients, which are now widely accepted as the state-of-the-art.
