From scientific evidence to environmental decision-making: PREMIER concludes in Cambridge

The final event of PREMIER (Prioritisation and Risk Evaluation of Medicines in the EnviRonment) brought together researchers, industry representatives, regulators and other stakeholders in Cambridge from 8 to 10 June 2026, marking the end of six years of collaboration to improve the environmental assessment of medicines.

Throughout the project, PREMIER partners developed new tools, data resources and assessment approaches to support more transparent, harmonised and evidence-based evaluation of pharmaceuticals in the environment. Key outputs showcased during the final event included the PREMIER Digital Assessment System (DAS), EcoDrug+ and the ePiE model.

The three-day programme combined presentations of final project results with interactive workshops involving external stakeholders. Discussions moved beyond scientific achievements to focus on how PREMIER’s outputs can continue to support environmental risk assessment and regulatory decision-making beyond the project’s formal end.

Teamit has contributed to PREMIER across the last six years via project management, communication and dissemination activities. Throughout the project, Teamit supported governance and coordination across the consortium, and led communication efforts to increase awareness and uptake of PREMIER’s results among scientific, regulatory and industry audiences.

The final event highlighted the value of sustained collaboration between academia, industry and regulators. As PREMIER reaches its conclusion, its tools, methodologies and stakeholder network provide a foundation for future work on medicines in the environment, helping ensure that the project’s impact continues into the future.
