Gianmarco Di Mauro

BSc in Biology (University of Catania), MSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology (University of Bologna), PhD in Biomedicine (Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona).


Gianmarco has gained extensive experience in biomedical research working both in academia and the pharmaceutical industry. He started his career in 2010 as a research assistant in neuropharmacology at Eli Lilly and Co. in the UK where he worked in drug discovery research for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. He then moved to the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM) in Italy to study novel approaches in molecular therapy to treat brain pathology of patients affected by rare genetic disorders (Lysosomal Storage Disorders). In 2019, Gianmarco completed his PhD training at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) in Barcelona where he studied the molecular organisation of the HP1c transcription complex.

Beyond scientific research, Gianmarco acquired progressive experience in the implementation, administration and management of different projects – both within and outside the EU Horizon 2020 framework – regarding science and society, scientific innovation, and excellent science. He is currently enrolled in a Specialisation Course in Projects Direction and Management from the Open University of Catalonia (UOC, Spain).
